| Properties
and Mechanism of Action: |
 |
 |
Nitrotard (nitroglycerin)
is a vasodilator proven
to be the mainstay of therapy
in management of angina
pectoris. It's also used
to treat congestive heart
failure. |
 |
Nitrotard (nitroglycerine)
is converted to nitric oxide
which relaxes smooth muscle
cell of vessels. |
 |
Nitrotard (nitroglycerine)
induced vasodilation increases
venous capacitance and decreases
arterial resistance, thereby
reducing both the pre-load
and after-load and lowering
the cardiac oxygen demand. |
 |
Nitrotard (nitroglycerine)
redistributes blood to ischemic
areas in patients with atherosclerotic
coronary heart disease. |
