| Composition: |
 |
| Each tablet contains 5mg of Vinpocetine. |
 |
 |
| Properties: |
 |
| Vinpocetine is a semi synthetic derivative
of vincamine, proved to be 2 to 3 times more effective
than vincamine. Vinpocetine has a selective vasoregulating
action, cerebroprotective, anti-hypoxic, anti-ischemic
and antioxidant activities. Vinpocetine is beneficial
in cerebral vascular disorders; it has no systemic
circulatory effects and has hardly any effect
on blood pressure and heart rate. |
 |
 |
| Mode of Action: |
 |
| The most important functions of AngioVan are: |
| 1. Neuroprotective
effect: |
| |
AngioVan blocks the sodium channel (Na+)
operation at the neuronal level, which regulates
calcium channel (Ca2+) operations preventing
high intracellular Ca2+ concentrations. AngioVan
also inhibits uptake of the neurotransmitter
adenosine. This reduces Ca2+ channel activity.
Both effects lead to lessening of
neurotransmitter excitotoxicity, lowering
ischemic or hypoxic damage and providing cerebroprotective
effects. |
|
| |
| 2. Selective improvement
of cerebral blood flow: |
| |
AngioVan inhibits Phosphodiesterase (type1),
leading to increases in the level & activity
of cyclic GMP. As a result, relaxation of
cerebral arteries & improvement of cerebral
circulation are observed. AngioVan reduces
the cerebral vascular resistance without affecting
systemic circulation i.e. does not evoke "steal
effect"; it improves the blood supply
mainly of the impaired area. |
|
| |
| 3. Selective improvement
of cerebral metabolism: |
| |
AngioVan increases the glucose & oxygen
consumption and utilization of the brain tissue.
It elevates the level of brain ATP and prevents
formation and release of free radicals that
are associated with neuronal damage. |
|
| |
| 4. Enhancement of
memory and learning functions: |
| |
One of the most extraordinary benefits of
Vinpocetine is its ability to enhance memory
function. It increases the levels of neurotransmitters
involved in memory function and provides long-term
enhancement of synaptic efficiency and neuronal
plasticity. |
|
 |
 |
| Indications: |
 |
| AngioVan is a unique, selective cerebral vasodilator,
potent metabolic enhancer, neuronal oxygenator,
anti-platelet aggregator, antioxidant, memory
enhancer & neuroprotector.
It is useful in the following indications: |
| |
| Cerebral disorders: |
All forms of acute and chronic cerebral circulatory
insufficiency including:
 |
reversible ischemic neurological deficiency |
 |
progressive and completed stroke |
 |
multi-infarct dementia |
 |
cerebral arteriosclerosis |
 |
post-traumatic and hypertensive encephalopathy |
 |
Dizziness, headache, vertigo and migraine
|
 |
Impaired cognitive performances and memory
troubles |
 |
Space-time disorientation & emotional
disturbances |
|
| |
| Non-Cerebral disorders: |
 |
Visual troubles of vascular origin e.g.
retinal arteriosclerosis and macula degeneration. |
 |
Hearing troubles of vascular origin e.g.
tinnitus and dizziness of labyrinth origin
and Maniere's disease. |
 |
Degenerative diseases e.g. diabetes, atherosclerosis. |
 |
Male impotence and nocturnal enuresis. |
|
| |
| Vinpocetine proved to be the drug of choice in
treating elderly patients showing symptoms such
as impairment of cognitive performances and memory
capacity and decreasing ability to cope with social
demands. |
 |
 |
| Contraindications: |
 |
| Safety during pregnancy is not yet established. |
 |
 |
| Side effects: |
 |
| Both human and animal studies consistently
show a remarkable safety profile for Vinpocetine
and freedom from side effects. Transient hypotension,
tachycardia may occur. |
 |
 |
| Dosage: |
 |
 |
Starting dose: 1-2 tablets
three times/day. |
 |
Maintenance Dose: 1 tablet
three times/day. |
| Absorption of
Vinpocetine is significantly higher when taken
with food |
|
