| Composition: |
| |
Each 5 ml. contains 1.2
gm. calcium glubionate, a
mixture of calcium lactobionate
and calcium gluconate, equivalent
to 87 mg. elemental calcium. |
| |
| Properties: |
Calcium is an essential
element for maintaining the
electrolyte equilibrium and
for the proper function of
many regulatory mechanisms,
e.g. Heart contraction, nerve
impulse propagation, hormone
release, ... etc. |
Hi-Cal syrup contains a
high amount of calcium glubionate,
which is a readily absorbable
calcium salt, in a palatable
syrup, assuring adequate and
convenient calcium supply. |
Hi-Cal syrup is used for
the treatment and prophylaxis
of acute and chronic calcium
deficiency states and disturbed
bone metabolism, in children
and adults. |
| Indications: |
| |
| Contraindications: |
Acute renal failure. |
Severe hypercalcinuria and
renal calculi. |
Hypercalcaemia and Hypervitaminosis
– D. |
Hypersensitivity to any
of the components of Hi-Cal
syrup. |
| Precautions: |
| |
Calcium should be given
cautiously to patients with
impaired renal function or
diseases associated with elevated
vitamin D concentration, plasma
calcium concentration should
be monitored closely in those
patients. |
| Adverse Reactions: |
| |
Hi-Cal syrup - being readily
absorbable - is exceptionally
well tolerated. Mild GIT symptoms
such as, constipation, anorexia,
dryness of mouth, thirst,
vomiting or abdominal pains
may rarely occur with oral
calcium preparations. However
these side effects are less
common with Hi-cal syrup than
with other less absorbable
forms of oral calcium salts. |
| Interactions: |
Calcium enhances the effect
of digitalis glycosides on
the heart and may precipitate
digitalis toxicity. |
Calcium reduces the absorption
of a number of drugs e.g.
fluorides, fluoroquinolones
or tetracyclines: so administration
should be separated by at
least 3 hours. |
Thiazide diuretics increase
the renal reabsorption of
calcium, thereby may lead
to hypercalcaemia. |
| Dosage and Administration: |
| Hi-Cal
syrup is better to be taken
just before meals to enhance
absorption. |
